Kindergarten (circles) learned facts about animals by "reading" pictures in nonfiction books. Then, they created a talking picture of their animal by using the Chatterpix Kids app. Check them out below!
All kindergarten classes participate in the world wide Hour of Code this year to try out computer programming. We had both parent and volunteers from local tech companies come to help us learn all about coding! What a fun week! Thank you to all the volunteers that helped make these event successful!
The library teamed up with The Beautiful Stuff Project to create a special literary inspired maker center. A new maker activity will be featured every month that is connected to a book from the library. The center is available during library class and after school until 3:15. The book for January is The Three Little Pigs. Check out some of our houses for the pigs below!
Kindergarteners are gearing up for Hour of Code (the second week of December). They have been learning fancy words like "algorithm," programming robots on the ipad.... and even programming their own friends! This week, we started using the computer to program angry bird. This is part of the Code.org curriculum that teaches students the tools to be inventors in technology not just consumers. If you would like to volunteer during Hour of Code, please contact me here. We would love to have you help out! Kindergarten students have been learning about parts of a book. Last week, we learned about what an author does. We read stories by Jane Yolen and Mo Willems. Then, students wrote a story with Mo Willems using "Don't Let the Pigeon Use this App" on the ipad.
Reading during the summer months is very important! Here are some summery reads that will be perfect for July & August:

Enjoy! Earlier this month, students celebrated Dr. Seuss and Read Across America Day. We had guest readers (teachers, parents, and other staff members) come and read their favorite Dr. Seuss book during Kindergarten library classes. Then, we created a fancy sock. This activity was inspired by the Dr. Seuss book Fox in Socks. Some of our creations are hanging up in the library - come see our wonderful work!
This week, Kindergarten students read the very funny book Froggy's First Kiss by Jonathan London. We discussed what they love about the library and what books they love to read. Then, they created a valentine for the library by answering the statement "I Love the library because..." Check out Mrs. Foster's class in action below! Why do you love the library?
